An Agricorp spokesperson says they've received more crop damage reports than usual from the Niagara and Haldimand regions so far this year.
However, Stephanie Charest says the overall number of Ontario crop damage reports is typical for this time of the year.
"In the Bruce, Grey, Huron, Perth, Wellington area we've received 500 damage reports and in the Lambton, Chatham-Kent and Essex area we've received 13 hundred damage reports. These numbers are less than the typical amount of damage reports for these areas."
She also points out that damage reports don't necessarily result in claims.
"Farmers file a damage report with us if they suspect damage, but in many cases the crop will rebound and they're able to harvest a good crop or a customer will wait until later in the year, when the extent of the damage is better known. We'll know more about the claim situation when the crop is harvested in the fall."
Charest is encouraging farmers to get in touch with Agricorp if they have any questions about their Production Insurance coverage or concerns about potential damage.
