After a day of practice at the Anderson Links Golf Club in Ottawa, the 2016 Canadian Plowing Championships get going at 10:30 this morning.
Brian McGavin of Walton and Jay Lennox of Ayton hit the dirt in the Senior Conventional competition.
Tiverton's Tom Evans and Gerald Corbett of Exeter are in the Senior Reversible contest.
The winner of each senior class will represent Canada at the 2017 World Competition in Kenya.
Shawn Ryan of Dashwood and Zachary Doerr of Ailsa Craig are competing in the Conventional Junior category.
The Junior winner receives a scholarship from Old College in Olds, Alberta.
Competitors will plow in each of the three days of the competition, both in sod and stubble conditions.
The Canadian Plowing Association says it wants to preserve the art and skill of match plowing, while promoting the safe use of farm machinery and farm productivity through proper soil management.
