Canadian and U-S Hog Inventories Up From 2015

The combined Canadian, U-S hog inventory was up 2 per cent in June from a year ago.

The breeding inventory and the semi-annual pig crop were both up 1 per cent, the number of sows farrowing during that period was up slightly and the market hog inventory was up 2 per cent.

Broken down, the U-S numbers follow the combined numbers, with the overall inventory and the market hog inventories both up 2 per cent - the breeding inventory up 1 per cent.

The U-S pig crop was higher than the combined number at 3 per cent and the sows farrowing number was also up at 1 per cent.

Here in Canada, the total hog and pig inventory on July 1st was also up 2 per cent.

That included a 2 per cent increase in the market hog inventory and the semi-annual pig crop from a year ago, a 1 per cent increase in the breeding inventory and a slight increase in the number of sows farrowing during that period.
