While wheat stocks in Canada are down in two consecutive years, the United Nations is reporting the opposite trend in cereals.
The Food and Agriculture Organization says its projecting world cereal production for 2016 to be up 22 million tonnes from a year ago.
That's an increase of .9 per cent, leading to a jump in stocks of 4.5 per cent.
The FAO notes the world's utilization of cereal is estimated to be up 1 per cent from last year.
They say the 2.56 billion tonnes will mostly be made up of corn, wheat, and rice.
Corn usage is expected to be at a record 1.03 billion tonnes.
The U.N. says that's largely due to America's expected bumper crop, much of which will be used for feed.
