Good Conditions This Fall Could Lead To Excellent Winter Wheat

It seems the warmth of the fall is setting up nicely for next year's crop of winter wheat.

The USDA says 70 per cent of the current U.S. crop has emerged.

That's 1 per cent more than last year and the five-year average.

What has emerged has been given a 58 per cent good to excellent rating by the department.

That's actually down a point from last week but still 9 per cent better than last year at this time.

The recent temperatures have helped the soybean harvest south of the border catch up as well.

At 87 per cent complete, the current harvest may be 4 points back of last year's pace, but it's now 2 per cent ahead of usual.

The USDA also reports this fall's corn harvest to be 75 per cent complete. That's 7 per cent back of 2015 but right on par with the five-year average.
