Beef Prices Mixed Last Week

The number of cull cows sold in Ontario last week was down 330 from the week before and 68 lower than the same week in 2015.

Still, the Beef Farmers of Ontario report cull cow prices took another dip of $1.40 on the week.

The average price of $67.86 is also $18.76 lower than a year ago.

BFO also notes stocker and feeder numbers continued their seasonal decline, leading to good demand as top quality calves sold 5 to 10 dollars per hundredweight higher.

Feed steer and heifer volumes were down just slightly on the week and the year.

Heifer prices averaged $121.97 last week, down $2.36 from the week prior.

Steers were up by 63 cents at an average of $124.42.

BFO adds Ontario railgrade prices were fully steady last week but are still $61.75 below last year's mark.
