The money comes from the federal government's Genomics Research and Development Initiative.

Researchers hope to find how resistant bacteria reaches humans after it has gone through the food system.
The other project, EcoBiomics, wants to explore how genomics can be used enhance and sustain the health of soil and water systems.
Through soil and water monitoring and assessment , researchers aim to increase soil and water microbes, which are essential to the growth of crops.
Minister of Science Kirsty Duncan says studying antimicrobial resistance and food security issues will address one of the problems Canadians face daily.
She adds the research initiatives will help make informed decisions to sustain the environment and build a vibrant society.
