OSCIA Pleased With Farm Projects Protecting Species At Risk

The Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association says it has distributed all available funding from the 2016 Species at Risk Farm Incentive Program.

More than 100 farmers from across 27 counties have set up projects for the coming year.

Environmental Programs Manager Christine Schmalz says the organization is thrilled about the commitment Ontario Farmers have made to support species at risk.

She adds the strong response displays the strong stewardship farmers have for their local ecosystems.

The association notes on-farm projects will include managing invasive plants, restoring wetlands, keeping livestock out of environmentally sensative areas and the planting of over 32,000 trees.
