The USDA's newest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report shows an increase in total red meat and poultry production from last month.
The department credits the bump solely to a raised projection in beef production, which is based on the current high pace of slaughter.
Still, beef prices are expected to be higher for the first half of 2017 than previously suggested as demand is stronger than anticipated.
Pork production, while still very high, has been forecast lower.
The WASDE report points to lighter-than-expected hog weights for the reduction.
Estimated prices for pork remain the same as before.
Broiler and turkey production estimates have also been reduced from last month's projections.
The USDA says that's mostly due to a slow pace of slaughter so far this quarter.
Conversely, forecasts for egg production for the first half of next year have been increased.
Milk production estimates have also been slightly reduced for 2017 as cow numbers are somewhat below previous projections.
The department says milk estimates would be lower still, but production per cow is on the rise.
