The National Farmers Union says it's in favour of government action in reducing greenhouse gas emissions as the livelihoods of producers revolves around a stable environment.
The organization, however, is against the idea of internationally trading carbon offset credits.
Fraud from those who don't have the capacity to ensure offsets and powerful corporations unjustly taking land to support poorly regulated carbon credits are a couple of the group's concerns.
The Union says it fully supports Ontario's regulations, which keep offset initiatives within Canada.
It adds ensuring offsets are not simultaneously used in other emission trading systems is also a benefit to the province's requirements.
NFU also points out there's still a lot up in the air as far as farmers are concerned.
The organization says the specific details will determine whether or not the system helps or hinders family farms in Ontario and across the country.
It hopes that, no matter the outcome, decision makers will still be open to future adaptation and mitigation in the carbon credit system to benefit as many citizens as possible.
