Grassland Stewardship Program Accepting Applications Again

The Grassland Stewardship Program is set to make another return this year.

Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association note applications are being taken from now until February 1st.

The program is aimed at funding Best Management Practices as well as forage and pasture management which supports the conservation of grassland birds.

OSCIA Environmental Programs Manager Andrea Dube-Goss feels farmers are in a unique position to support vulnerable bird poputations.

She says the funding will help farmers create, enhance, and protect appropriate habitats.

The association notes the stewardship program covers pasture rejuvenation, controlling encroaching trees and shrubs, native grassland restoration, forage harvest management and rotational and delayed grazing systems.

Full information on the Grassland Stewardship Program can be found at www.ontariosoilcrop.org.
