Russian pig production grew by 9.4 per cent in 2016.
Russia's Ministry of Agriculture is reporting that total pork production hit 4.35 million tonnes last year.
Agronomy-Ukraine says it appears that commercial pig producers have been investing in production as they made up 3 and a half tonnes of the pork, which is 12.5 per cent more than in 2015.
It notes that seems to fit with the government and agricultural import substitution policy - in response to self-imposed sanctions on food imports.
Those commercial pork producers are now leery of the Trump-Putin relationship, as the removal of those sanctions in the near future seems likely.
The Ministry also reports live weight pigs in Russia for the month of December averaged $1.58 U.S. per kg.
