Provincial Ag Minister Says Hydro Price Cuts Will Ease Energy Burden On Farmers

Ontario's Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has given his thoughts on yesterday's announcement by the province that hydro rates will be cut by 25 per cent.

Jeff Leal issued a release last evening.

In it, he notes electricity rates were an issue brought up to him by rural residents and members of the agri-food community during his travels across the province.

Leal adds the new hydro rates are fairer for everyone and will lessen the energy burden felt by farmers, agri-food businesses and rural dwellers living in Ontario.

He feels many small business in rural communities will benefit from the initiative as well.

The Minister also pointed out that people living in rural communities may also have access to further electricity price reductions as the Rural or Remote Rate Protection program has been expanded.

Leal concluded his statement by saying this step is one of the ways the provincial government is working to attract and support jobs to grow Ontario's economy.
