WASDE Report Raises Expected Livestock Prices Again

For the second straight month, American cattle, hog and broiler price forecasts have all been raised by the USDA.

The department's latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report credits the increases on continued strength of demand.

Beef production estimates have been increased from last month based on current slaughter rates and recent placement numbers.

Pork production has been slightly reduced.

The USDA says that's due to lighter-than-expected market weights so far this year.

Turkey numbers have also been decreased as a result of slowed production in the last half a year.

Broiler production figures are unchanged from February's report while egg production is expected to be higher.

The department notes milk production forecasts are up as milking cow numbers are expected to increase more rapidly next quarter.

But it also notes the amount of milk per cow has been dialed down slightly from last month to reflect January data.
