Today mark's the middle of Canadian Agricultural Safety Week.
Yesterday, federal Ag Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced funding for a new grain safety program to educate people on how to reduce injuries and deaths caused by grain handling.
$375,000 will go to the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association for training modules and demonstrations.
CASA Director Marcel Hacault says the association's vision is of a Canada where no one gets hurt farming.
He adds grain safety awareness and training is essential to achieving that goal.
The ag industry is one of Canada's top three most hazardous industries in which to work, as an average of 84 deaths occur each year.
The grain safety program will include an interactive display for trade shows, on-site training for producers and volunteer first responders, as well as a mobile grain safety demonstration unit.
