University of Guelph Receives Landmark Gift

The University of Guelph has been given it's biggest gift ever.

The school notes $20 million has been donated from the Arrell Family Foundation to better global food economy and further strengthen U of G and Canada as leaders in the agri-food industry.

University president Franco Vaccarino feels the landmark gift will help the school address food security, safety and sustainability.

He says the Arrell family has shown both generosity and foresight with their gift, and the University is grateful for their faith in its agri-food prowess.

The funds will be matched by U of G, for a total of $40 million, to create the Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph.

Tony Arrell and his wife Anne, both alumni of the University, created the Arrell Family Foundation in 1999.

The foundation says its dedicated to improving health and quality of life, which meshes well with U of G.
