Soybean production is increasing in Canada just as U-S farmers plant millions of acres more in soybeans too.
The increase in Canada is based on the growing demand in the international market.
Jim Everson is the Executive Director of Soy Canada and says China is boosting its imports to 85 to 90 million tons.
"China is of real interest," says Everson. "The Government of Canada is working on developing trade ties with China and are into exploratory talks with the Chinese about a possible free trade agreement. It's a very large market. They are producers of non-GMO soybeans but they're also, I think, going to be more and more reliant on imports."
A Soy Canada contingent just returned from trade missions in Japan, a current market, and Thailand, an expanding market.
