Bayfield Farm Gets Greenbelt Money

The Bayfield Berry Farm, northeast of Bayfield in Huron County, is one of several projects that will benefit from Ontario's Greenbelt Fund.

Ontario Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal made the announcement Tuesday.

A total of 24 local food projects that increase access to local food across the province are receiving money.

For the Bayfield Berry Farm its $37,250 to help expand an on-farm processing facility to meet a growing demand for fruit juices, ciders, preserves and fruit liqueurs.

And the National Farmers Union is getting $32,675 to build a network of local food advocates across a number of sectors, including educators and healthcare providers. The NFU will create tailored local food information material for the different advocates and create a directory of local food advocates.

In total $800,000 in new investments is being handed out from the Greenbelt Fund through the province's Local Food Investment Fund program.
