Beeton Farmer Facing $2M Crop Loss After Flooding

While Midwestern Ontario farmers continue to deal with persistent rain in the forecast, a farmer in Beeton says he's lost just over $2-million dollars worth of crops, and he thinks someone with the town of Tottenham might have something to do with it. Barry Dorsey of Dorsey Farms in Beeton says a recent rainfall was suddenly a tsunami that covered a large portion of his 500 acres of crops under as much as two feet of water.

Dorsey is wondering if a mistake was made upstream, saying the huge flow of water that happened over the span of just a half hour could not have happened naturally. Dorsey says he's dealt with large amounts of rain before, but this time he thinks another factor was at play.

Dorsey has been farming potatoes, carrots and onion on his farm for almost 50 years, and says his irrigation pumps have been running non-stop to try and keep up with the water, and says he's been in touch with New Tecumseth council about his concerns.
