Wellington North has been working at getting ATVs onto township roads since 2015, but riders are going to have to wait a little longer before it’s legal.
Council decided to wait on new Provincial legislation coming in 2021 which will regulate ATV on public roads. Wellington North was advised that going ahead on its own, would among other things, cause problems with policing.
Wellington North Acting Mayor at council Dan Yake is welcoming provincial legislation that will regulate ATVs on public roads. The municipality has been struggling with the issue for five years and considered making changes.
But officials say unless neighbouring municiplities, such as Minto and Mapleton. do the same it could present challenges with policing.
