Five meat processing plants through Huron and Grey counties are receiving money through the recent Canadian Agricultural Partnership.
The federal and provincial governments announce this week that $7 million was being made available.
Over half a million will filter to businesses locally.
In Huron County, Bachert Meats in Walton will get just over $43,000, Metzger Meats in Hensall is getting just over $75,000 and Hayter's Turkey Products in Dashwood will use $150,000 to improve efficiencies.
In Grey County, Exceldor Foods Limited of Hanover is getting $150,000 to implement an automatic weighing and conveying system to increase efficiency.
And West Grey Premium Beef Inc. in Durhamis getting $150,000 for the purchase of a meat slicer.
The program was focused on measures that could quickly increase processing capacity as the industry dealt with a shortage of processing capacity, partly related to COVID slowdowns.
