UPDATE: Snow Causes Slick Roads (Gallery)

The sudden blast of wintry weather is causing treacherous driving conditions for some areas across the region.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Another round of snow is expected for much for southern Ontario with up to 5cm (2in) for most areas.

OPP are reporting multiple collisions on the 401, including a crash that has reduced the westbound highway down to one lane near the Queens line exit east of Tilbury. A BlackburnNews.com listener is also reporting near whiteout conditions in spots along Hwy. 3 between Leamington and Kingsville. Similar road conditions are also reported in the Town of Essex.

OPP Constable Janine Belanger is advising motorists to avoid driving today if possible. "We;re hearing approximately 200m visibility with the snowfall right now," says Belanger," so we're advising people to slow down."

Officials are reminding motorists to slow down and leave space when there's snow on the ground.
