Police in Windsor and Chatham-Kent are investigating after a break-and-enter and an incident on Hwy. 401.
Police in Windsor were called to a home in the 700-block of Argyle Rd. around 7:20am Sunday after an intruder woke up the homeowner. At that time, it was believed the suspect left with a laptop computer and a purse, but as the investigation unfolded, it was discovered the thief left with much more.
An hour later, Ontario Provincial Police in Chatham-Kent pulled over a Chevrolet Impala in the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 near Queens Line. While the officer was speaking with the driver, he suddenly drove off almost hitting the officer. He crossed the centre median and fled in the westbound lanes.
By the time the officer found the vehicle, which through the course of the investigation police discovered was stolen from the home on Argyle Rd. in Windsor, the driver was nowhere in sight.
A K-9 unit tracked him to a nearby home.
A 21-year-old man faces a list of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in his blood. He'll appear in a Chatham court on December 31.
