Record Low Temperature Set

A new record low temperature was set in Chatham-Kent this week.

"On January 14, Chatham-Kent set a record temperature for cold. -25.7 C (-14 F) that was actually measured in Ridgetown," says Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment Canada Peter Kimbell. "The old record was -25. That was set, if you can recall this date, back in 1893, so January 14, 1893."

A record cold was also set in Sarnia, but not in Windsor-Essex. "There was a bit of cloud that developed, which kept the temperatures a bit warmer," says Kinbell. "They only got down to about -15.7 (3.7 F)  which did not break the record."

The normal low temperature for this time of year is -9 C  (16 F).
