The $1.3-million originally allocated for St. Clair College's baking program will remain in reserves.
That decision comes after Chatham-Kent's budget committee voted down Councillor Michael Bondy's attempt to bring that money into the 2015 budget.
With the St. Clair College downtown bakery program looking like it won't go through in the near future, Bondy hoped the money could relieve pressures on the budget. He adds the money is useless if it sits in reserves. "Take that money and give it back to the taxpayer, as it's remained in limbo for a number of years. The project's not going to happen, and I'm trying to avoid taxes."
Staff adds St. Clair College is expected to come back to Chatham-Kent Council with an update on its search for a home in downtown Chatham.
