CCAC Workers Rallying For Support (GALLERY)

Striking CCAC workers are hoping a rally in Chatham on Friday helped to better get across their issues to the public.

The Ontario Nurses' Association Chatham representative Kelly Jones was among those rallying out front of the Chatham-Kent Civic Centre.

"It was a very central location and [Chatham-Kent] Mayor [Randy] Hope was very open to meeting with us and talking to us about our concerns," says Jones. "We're looking for everyone's support because we believe home care touches everyone and we feel we're an essential service."

Jones says care coordinators at the CCAC are looking for the same 1.5% and 1.4% pay raises nurses received through an arbitration ruling.

"Across the province, the CEO's and managers have had up to 50% increases in their salaries over the time of our last collective agreement," says Sue Gelinas, ONA president for the Erie-St. Clair CCAC. "We took two years of wage freezes."

No new talks are planned, but the union is calling for bargaining to resume.
