Chatham-Kent Council is holding a special meeting regarding the fate of WDC Rail Thursday night.
As of now, the municipality is responsible for the land associated with the rail line, but not the rail materials. After providing multiple extensions, CP Rail says they need to make a decision about the rest of the assets by March 2.
So CK has a couple of options. One, recommended by administration, would see the municipality lapse the decision to purchase the rail materials. The other, not recommended by staff, would have Chatham-Kent approve the purchase of the rail materials for $3,648,354 plus HST.
CK first approved the purchase of the formerly known CSX Transportation in 2013, renaming the operation WDC Rail. Thursday's meeting is open to the public and starts at 6pm.
