Donation Bin Bylaw Resurfaces

Chatham-Kent Council is asking staff to draw up rules about donation bins with respect to size, location and identification by June.

The request was prompted by complaints about untrustworthy bins which have since disappeared from the area.

Councillor Michael Bondy originally put forward the motion, and hopes the regulations will keep the issue from returning. "From experiences in other communities once these bylaws pass this problem goes away. The owners of these bins, which are a little suspect, tend to leave these communities. There's really no cost incurred by bylaw officers."

Staff originally recommended CK not adopt a bin bylaw. However council feels having no regulation could see the bin fraudsters return.
