Habitat Building First Wallaceburg Home

Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent is building a home in Wallaceburg for a family of five.

"This is the first time ever in Wallaceburg," says Melaney Austin, president and chair of the family selection committee.

The home will go to Wallaceburg residents Ryan and Becca Davis, along with their children Isaac, April and Olive.

Austin says after building their first home in Chatham in 2013 and setting up the Habitat for Humanity Restore location, the group is ready to build more homes.

"We opened the restore on Riverview Dr. so we've been busy doing that, but now that we've got the restore open, we are going to be in the business of building homes for families in Chatham-Kent," says Austin. "They currently live in Wallaceburg and work in Wallaceburg and that's where they would like to live, so we went out in search of land. We're just in the process of finalizing the land deal."

Austin adds anyone looking to volunteer or looking to apply for a home can call Habitat for Humanity or head to the habitat website.
