Ripley Fair Cattle Enclosure Creates Concern

A proposed enclosed holding area for cattle at the Ripley Agricultural Fair continues to draw opposition.

It would be within 100 metres of the municipal well and could enable cattle manure to reach the well and contaminate the municipal water source.

Jim Farrell of the Ripley Agricultural Society told Huron-Kinloss council last night that the Society expects council to help it out. He said he wants council to listen instead of grandstanding about protecting water.

Mayor Mitch Twolan said the problem would be taken to the Source Water Protection Committee and the committee would give its comments. However, Twolan added the committee does not have control over a council's decision.
