Caesars Windsor has announced a round of layoffs affecting three different departments at the casino.
Forty-seven full-time employees and 15 part-time workers in the finance, transportation, and food and beverage sectors received pink slips this morning. Public Relations Manager Jhoan Baluyot says the majority of the layoffs were in finance, where a change in protocol resulted in cashier layoffs.
"Servers will be taking care of their own bill transactions, so they'll take the cash, where before they would bring it to a cashier to cash out," says Baluyot. "This efficiency improvement is really something that the majority of restaurants do, where the servers wrap-up their own transaction." Baluyot adds all of the affected staff are unionized and will be able to apply for 29 full-time and 18 part-time positions recently posted, should they so choose.
Caesars Windsor employs nearly 3,000 people and is one of the top three employers in the city.
