Cyclists take to the road tonight to honour fellow riders who have been hurt or killed while cycling.
The Ride of Silence started in 2003 in Dallas, Texas and has grown to include hundreds of events around the world.
"It initiated in the U.S. and it came about because of the number of injuries and fatalities that were happening on the road," says Kris McNaughton, organizer of the Ridgetown ride. "So a group of people thought this would be a great way to try and bring awareness to motorists that they need, and should be, sharing the road with cyclists."
The Chatham-Kent 4H group is hosting the Ridgetown ride. They're meeting at 6:30pm at the Ridgetown Campus of the University of Guelph for the 10km ride.
Bike Friendly Windsor-Essex is also hosting a Ride of Silence, leaving from the Willisted Restaurant in Walkerville. Registration opens at 6pm.
Both rides get underway at 7pm.
