A Wallaceburg man faces charges after a police chase ended with a rescue in the Sydenham River.
The incident started when an officer spotted a man riding his bike on James St. around 1am, wearing dark clothing, carrying a backpack, and heading in the wrong direction on the one-way street.
As the officer approached the cyclist, the man dumped his bike, ran away, and eventually jumped into the Sydenham River. About halfway across the river, the suspect got tired and had to be rescued by fire officials.
It turns out the 21-year-old was under a curfew order and has been charged with failing to obey his conditions.
