Chatham-Kent Council is set to endorse the municipality's "age-friendly action plan" Monday night.
The action plan, three years in the making, provides a number of goals administration hopes to meet to make CK more accessible for seniors. This includes making the public transportation system more user-friendly, as well as creating meaningful opportunities for seniors to get involved in the community. Public areas like sidewalks and crosswalks could also be altered to be more accessible for seniors.
In addition to the plan, Chatham-Kent also wants to make its "age-friendliness" official. Council could approve an application to be part of the World Health Organization's Age-Friendly Cities Network.
Before Monday's meeting, members of the public are invited to a community forum at 6pm in Council Chambers, to hear a discussion on aging well in Chatham-Kent.
Officials estimate a third of Chatham-Kent's population will be 65 and older by the mid 2030s.
