The Toronto Maple Leafs have hired a Windsor native as a new assistant coach.
The Leafs announced Tuesday that D.J. Smith will be joining Mike Babcock's coaching staff. Jim Hiller and Andrew Brewer have also been named assistant coaches.
Smith was head coach of the Oshawa Generals for the last three seasons. During the 2014-15 season, the Generals took home the Ontario Hockey League Championship and Memorial Cup.
Smith was also an assistant coach with the Windsor Spitfires for six seasons, which was during the team's back-to-back Memorial Cup wins.
