Councillor Puzzled By Early Wind Farm Vote

West Kent Councillor Mark Authier believes council should've waited for a public meeting before endorsing a new wind project.

Chatham-Kent Council is backing Kruger Energy in adding 12 more turbines southwest of Tilbury, adding to the 88 existing wind structures in the area. However, on Thursday, staff will hold a public meeting in Merlin to gather feedback on the project.

Authier, who voted against the endorsement, wanted to hear what other residents thought of the new turbines. "I wish they would've waited until after the meeting to vote. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there's going to be a whole bunch of people who support it, and I just voted against the motion."

If the project is approved by the province, Chatham-Kent will benefit from a $2.2-million contribution from Kruger Energy, as well as annual property taxes.
