The needs of Essex County have gotten face time with Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne.
Essex County Warden Tom Bain and Windsor mayor Drew Dilkens met with Wynne at a mayor's meeting in London Wednesday.
Bain says it was a successful meeting about jobs and infrastructure. "I don't think any of us went in with expectations of having immediate answers," says Bain. "Down here in Windsor and Essex County, we're under a different situation. We've got over 11% unemployment and we need some help."
Mayors also asked for new powers to provide incentives to attract business. "In that we can be a little flexible in presenting land or somehow covering environmental studies, paying for those," he says. "Some enticements that we can give that they're going to stay."
Bain says a follow-up meeting was promised by the premier that will hopefully address some issues raised.
