Essex Writer Finds Local Stories

An Essex County based writer who has just completed a children's books based on the Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary, has also covered topics just as the Underground Railroad and the War of 1812.

Jane Buttery says she started producing books to encourage children to read.

"My degree is in history and I was a teacher for 28 years, so I think that idea of educating as well as entertaining stays with me," she says, noting that she started writing about local attractions like the Harrow Fair and Colasanti's. "They have that first hand experience of visiting that place so they can related to it."

She says the story about the sanctuary is based on a story Jasper Miner told her a number of years ago.
