Cenotaph Issue About Respect

Chatham-Kent's mayor is defending his comments to move the Chatham cenotaph, saying it's about respect.

"The current location it is in, it is not getting the respect it deserves, people parking around it, people sitting on it," says Randy Hope. "I asked the community to have the discussion, if that is the place you want then we need to take action to prevent those things from happening."

Meantime, resident John Willatt would like Chatham-Kent to apply for grants to establish a downtown square commemorating the 150th anniversary of confederation.

He says if a decision is made to move the cenotaph, that would be a good place for it. "Confederation Square idea can run with or without the cenotaph, but if you are going to do a nice downtown square, to me, it would be a nice place to put the cenotaph."
