Disappointing Debriefing For Hike Metal

Hike Metal CEO Andy Stanton is debating what next steps to take after a disappointing meeting with officials on the contract for a new Pelee Island ferry.

Stanton says the explanation for booting the Wheatley shipbuilder from the bid at the Request For Qualifications stage wasn't good enough.

"What they were looking for and what they were actually asking for in the RFQ were two total different things," says Stanton. "They zeroed in on specifics they said I should have responded to and didn't, but they never requested that. They basically, as far as I'm concerned, are lying through their teeth."

Stanton isn't ready to commit to any potential legal action but tells BlackburnNews.com he'll have a better idea of what course of action to take in a few weeks.

Stanton adds the staff with the Ministry of Transportation wouldn't discuss why Hike Metal's joint bid with a Quebec company was passed over. The province awarded a $40-million contract to ASENAV based in Chile to build the new ferry meant to replace the aging and undersized MV Pelee Islander.
