Jilted Groom Charged

A man from Texas who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, has turned himself in to Chatham-Kent Police.

Police say the man met a Chatham woman while on vacation in 2011, and the pair got engaged in April of 2014.

Later that year, the wedding was called off, and the man demanded the engagement ring back, however it was not returned.

This past January, police allege the Chatham woman woke up to find her and her friend's vehicle being spray-painted with derogatory phrases and an unknown substance poured in the gas tanks.

Police, along with the Canada Border Services Agency, determined that the former groom-to-be, rented a vehicle and crossed the Ambassador Bridge on the day in question, and is suspected to be behind the vandalism.

The 34-year-old has been charged with six counts of mischief over $5,000, and two counts of mischief under $5,000.
