New Erieau Trail Promotes Active Living

Those looking to be more active in Erieau this summer can now take full advantage of the area's newest trail, which is set to officially open today.

The Erieau Boulevard Trail is a 2.4 metre wide, asphalt trail and travels over 1 km through the centre of Erieau. The trail will be open to pedestrians, cyclists, and rollerbladers.

Kathryn Kielstra, the active community coordinator for CK, says the trail will be convenient for anyone looking be more healthy and active.

"When you provide an amenity like this one, walking and cycling, but walking especially, is such an easy way for people to be active," she says. "So when they see that kind of infrastructure it really inspires them to get out, and they start exploring. And it's an easy accessible way for anybody to be more active in their lifestyle."

Kielstra says the total cost of the trail was around $330,000.

The trail is already open to the public, but a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held today at 10am in front of the Erieau Firehall. South Kent Trail and Chatham-Kent Trail volunteers will participate in the ribbon cutting along with representatives from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.
