A complete make-over of the former Chatham Baptist Church at the corner of William St. and Park St. in Chatham is almost complete and it will open as a special events venue early next month.
"This is the Kent 1874, Kent is obvious and 1874 is the year this structure was built," says Michael Fry who is part of a family effort to restore and re-purpose the building.
Fry, along with Stephen Keating and their families bought the structure a year ago and updated plumbing, architecture, and fixtures.
They plan to open it up for the public to see in early August.
"We actually found a few things in this building that were hidden behind walls and drop ceilings that really add to the character," says Keating.
The new venue already has some weddings booked, and Keating and Fry are hoping for concert and food events, tieing in local talent and local food.
