Adjust Driving For Fog

There have already been few recent foggy mornings and as summer comes to an end there could be more.

OPP Constable Janine Belanger says there are a number of ways to stay safe driving in fog.

One is slowing down, but it is also important to be seen.

"A lot of vehicles have daytime running lights, but that doesn't include rear lights, so make sure your lights are on when you are travelling in the fog," she says. "We recommend you keep it quite in the vehicle, you can hear what is going on around you much better that way, you can hear other vehicles coming."

This past Thursday marked the 16-year anniversary of the 63-vehicle pile-up on the 401 near Windsor killing eight and sending dozens to hospital. Dense fog and high speeds were to blame.

She also reminds motorists harvest time is underway in many farm operations and will begin soon in others, so slow moving traffic will be a consideration for the next few months.
