Gaps In Regional Addiction Services

Regional healthcare officials are working to bridge the gaps they admit exist in addiction services.

Erie St. Clair LHIN Director of Communications Shannon Sasseville says they're currently creating a strategic plan to better assist addicts.

"If we look at that and notice there are gaps in care, that's when the LHIN gets involved to either say we should increase service or we should talk to agencies about better coordination of care," she says.

The new addictions plan should be finalized in the next few months. Officials haven't budgeted how much it may cost to implement the strategy.

So far they see the need for day programs and more opportunities for residential care.

"It's not that the care being provided isn't quality care, it's just that when we look across the system we know that there are gaps," Sasseville says.
