Lambton-Kent District School Board officials want to make it clear if teachers are going to have side projects, they need to be worked on in their own time.
The board has reviewed its Employee Entrepreneurial Activities policy, which states any business a teacher is associated with can't be advertised or discussed during school hours.
Director of Education Jim Costello says these opportunities could vary depending on the teacher. They could be a coach outside of a school team, or offer tutoring services for money. But he wants the rules to be clear for both teachers and parents.
"In most cases parents wouldn't ask, and we wouldn't allow any advertising for businesses up on our bulletin boards in schools. I think it's understood," he says.
Costello adds he can't think of any recent instances where there's been a problem.
