Deer Flock To Area Highways

As crops disappear and migration increases in the fall, local deer are making their way to area roads and highways.

OPP Constable Janine Belanger says they're prevalent around the early morning hours, and at dusk.

"We advise motorists don't swerve suddenly when they come upon a wild animal in their path," she says. "Try to slow down if possible and stay in control of the vehicle."

Deer will be much more visible this time of year. Belanger adds you can look for the glowing eyes of wildlife in the dark.

"Deer also seldom run alone. If you see one there will probably be more nearby."

The OPP say two accidents in the last week have involved cars hitting deer on Hwy. 401.
