The Chatham Maroons are now riding a five game winning streak after beating the LaSalle Vipers 6-2 on Wednesday.
The Maroons started the game strong scoring a 3-0 lead in the first period, and extending it to 4-0 in the second. The Vipers made it onto the board at the end of the second period and scored another in the third. However, two more goals by Chatham in the final frame ensured their win.
Maroons defenceman Michael Douglas says the win was a huge success for his team.
"Both [teams] coming in with four game win streaks, we knew it would be a good rivalry game," he says. "So to come out the way we did and take the lead right way, keep going and finish 6-2; it's a great game."
Douglas also scored his first goal of the season during the game.
"It's exciting to finally get the monkey off my back, get it out of the way," he says. "Feels great."
The Maroons will take on the Sarnia Legionnaires next on Thursday at 7:10pm.
