Storm Effects Depend On How It Hits

As the remnants of Hurricane Patricia approach our area weather watchers are expecting the possibility of some flooding and damaging winds.

The water management supervisor with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority Jason Wintermute says with up to 50 mm (2 in) of rain likely, it isn't the volume that will be the concern.

"It's been dry and two inches isn't a terrible amount of rain, but I think the concern that was expressed is the potential for downpours and a lot of rain very quickly," he says, noting high winds will be an issue for shoreline areas. "(The wind) is supposed to shift from the south east to the south west so depending on the angle where it is facing at some point during the storm they'll get waves straight on."

With the possibility of gust of up to 85 km/h (55 mph) he says the potential for erosion and shore line flooding is very real.
