Warmest Nov. 3 In 28 Years

A new record high was set in Sarnia Tuesday afternoon.

The temperature at Chris Hadfield Airport soared to 24 C (75 F) by 2pm. The previous record for November 3 was 22.1 C set in 1987.

Temperatures 10 degrees or more above the seasonal norm are forecast to continue until the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says a large area of high pressure anchored off the U.S. mid-Atlantic seaboard is acting as a big pump, bringing southerly winds into the region.

It will turn cooler with more seasonal temperatures by Saturday but another high pressure system next week will again bring warmer than normal weather.

Coulson says most long term forecasts suggest the El Nino effect will make for a milder winter season.

He cautions though that around the Great Lakes minor temperature variances can have a huge impact on the conditions we experience.

He says a mild November will keep Lake Huron water temperatures warmer and the first burst of cold Arctic air could set up strong snow squall activity.
